After his controversial film “Latak” under Outlines Films, director Jowee Morel is venturing into another film that is expected to cause a stir yet again in the movie industry.
Next week, Morel (Mga Paru-Parong Rosas, Mona Singapore Escort, and When A Gay Man Loves) is scheduled to film his next movie, which will show men having sex with men (MSM).
Morel said, through his next project, he hopes to raise the public’s awareness about human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
“My film will be a discussion of how gays should enlighten people about HIV. It’s not true that gay people are the ones who contaminate HIV. Even heterosexuals are also agents of the ailment if we don’t practice safe sex,” said Morel, a nursing graduate from London.
Morel added that his upcoming movie is “not a film that would just titillate.”
“It is to reorient our public about sex and the good things that we can learn from it,” he maintained.
Morel has already done a documentary tackling HIV cases in Asia, particularly in Indonesia, late last year.
He shared that while doing the documentary he learned that the correct term when referring to two men engage in sexual activity is not “gay sex” anymore.
The politically correct word, according to him, is MSM.
“You see, it’s not only the gays who indulge in sex with men. It’s also real men having sex with real men. And bisexuals also have sex with men. So, the line has already been drawn. It is coined not to discriminate people,” he said.
Morel stressed the need to educate the public about HIV and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) as more people worldwide get infected by the deadly disease.
He said he was happy that his documentary, which was produced by Asia Pacific Network, has prompted some producers to make an educational film about MSM.
“I want to contribute my share of knowledge about HIV in relation to [MSM]. I think we should be informed the right way,” he said.
